“Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun”

“All communists must grasp the truth: political power grows out of the barrel of a gun” -Mao Zedong

At first glance this quote may seem rather odd and mysterious but the points it is making are very important to understand.

One; Revolution by peaceful means is useless and only endlessly goes in circles. It is extremely dogmatic and ahistorical to still be a reformist. Another quote by Mao to sum up this point; “A revolution is not a dinner party, or writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing embroidery; it cannot be so refined, so leisurely and gentle, so temperate, kind, courteous, restrained and magnanimous. A revolution is an insurrection, an act of violence by which one class overthrows another.”

Two; Peasants, proletarians and all oppressed classes must be perpetually armed, ready to fight and most importantly; class conscious, in order to both establish and maintain political power. In Russia, the proletarians were armed, in China, the peasants were armed, and so on. But after a revolution these arms can’t be forfeited. In the DPRK, workers and peasants are still armed with a vast array of arms at their disposal (including artillery) by means of the North Korean Worker-Peasant Red Guard. When you add up the number of people in the Worker-Peasant Red guards and the number of people in the North Korean military you’ll see that just over half of North Korean workers are armed AND trained. This is the opposite of America, where 3% of the population owns 50% of the guns and little to no average gun owners are professionally trained – nor are they class conscious

Three; It is only natural that capitalism is overthrown by means armed revolution as all attempts of political reform in favor of the oppressed masses are only either concessions to avoid revolutionary movement or simply completely obstructed by capitalists at home and imperialists abroad; This is a fact proven by history. Further, all massive reconstructions of society as a whole have come to be through civil wars, struggle and a revolutionary movement based on a solid philosophical basis, to assume we can jump from capitalism to socialism with peaceful methods is lunacy. The oppressor class isn’t going to stand by and not fight to maintain their power. Further, it is extremely important to keep the proletarians armed and trained after a revolution to maintain their liberation and the dictatorship of the proletariat, as well as to spread the revolution and destroy imperialism. Imperialism will never be destroyed by votes and petition, it will be destroyed only through the blood of the oppressors and the bullets of the oppressed.
